The Ship Inn has been a hostelry since 1794 when ships moored in the bay to bring in daily essentials. The Hotel is surrounded by a fascinating mix of historical destinations, fabulous forest walks, river and sea fishing, extensive golf courses and wonderful gardens. It is rich in the abundance of nature at its best - from wild bird reserves to the quiet forests frequented by red squirrels. The hotel has its own special literary connection. It was here that Dorothy L. Sayers wrote her famous novel Five Red Herrings and guests can trace the background to the novel in the surrounding area.
